Guwahati: Today, on June 26, In the ongoing investigation into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, three persons have been arrested and sent to police custody for six days for allegedly helping the accused and trying to destroy important evidence.

The three accused — Lokendra Singh Tomar, Silome James, and Balveer Ahirbar — were arrested from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and brought to Shillong, Meghalaya, where they were presented before the court.

Tushar Chandra, Assistant Public Prosecutor, said,

“Three accused were produced before the Court today…After hearing the parties, the court granted 6-day custody for them.”

According to the police, these three individuals played a key role in obstructing justice in the murder case. Silome James, who was the first among them to be arrested, is a property dealer.

He had rented out a flat to Vishal Chauhan, one of the co-accused in the murder case. This same flat was used by Raja Raghuvanshi’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, to hide after the crime.

Sonam stayed at the flat from May 26 to June 8, before she was finally found at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and arrested.

Balveer Ahirbar worked as a security guard at the apartment complex where the flat is located.

The police believe he has key information about the movements of the accused during the time Sonam was hiding in the building. He is also accused of helping James tamper with evidence in the case.

Lokendra Singh Tomar is said to be connected to the same flat. He had allegedly instructed James to remove all of Sonam’s belongings from the flat, which is being seen as an attempt to destroy evidence and mislead the investigation.

These arrests are an important development in the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed on May 23 in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya during his honeymoon.

After his death, his wife Sonam went missing, and was only located weeks later in Uttar Pradesh. As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the murder had been planned by Sonam along with her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and three other persons.

In Shillong, when the three accused were brought to court, the prosecution requested police custody to further question them and uncover more details about the conspiracy.

Background of the Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case

Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was murdered on May 23, 2024, in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

He had gone there on his honeymoon with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. Shortly after the murder, Sonam went missing, raising suspicions about her involvement.

After days of search, she was found at a roadside eatery (dhaba) in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and taken into custody.

As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the murder was allegedly pre-planned by Sonam in conspiracy with her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and three others.

The plan involved luring Raja to a remote location under the guise of a honeymoon and executing the crime.

Following the murder, Sonam reportedly stayed hidden in a rented flat in Indore, with the help of known associates.

Several people are now accused of sheltering her, tampering with evidence, and misleading the police during the investigation.
