The case dates back to a complaint filed by Umesh Mishra, who alleged that he was assaulted by Mishrilal Yadav and his associates on the night of January 29, 2019, outside his home.

Bihar: The court in Darbhanga, Bihar, has sentenced BJP MLA Mishrilal Yadav and his associate Suresh Yadav to three months in jail for assaulting a man in 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.500 each on both convicts.

The ruling came on Friday (May 23) when Additional District and Sessions Judge Suman Kumar Diwakar of the Special MP/MLA Court dismissed the appeal filed by Mishrilal Yadav. The court rejected his request for relief and ordered his immediate imprisonment.

Mishrilal Yadav had earlier filed an appeal against a February 2025 verdict, which had sentenced him and his associate to jail for voluntarily causing hurt to a man named Umesh Mishra. The incident took place on January 29, 2019, outside Mishra’s house.

The verdict had originally been delivered by Special Judge-cum-Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Karuna Nidhi Prasad Arya, who sentenced both accused to three months’ imprisonment and imposed a Rs.500 fine on each.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Renu Jha, speaking to the media, confirmed the developments:

“Yadav had filed an appeal against the verdict of the court which awarded him three months in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 500 in February,” she said.

“The next date of hearing in the case is on May 27,” she added.

“Both the MLA and his associate Suresh Yadav have been sent to jail and a fine of Rs 500 each slapped on them,” Jha informed.

While being escorted to jail after the verdict, Mishrilal Yadav spoke briefly to reporters and said:

“I had filed an appeal against the February order of the MP/MLA court, which was rejected by the court today. I respect the verdict of the court.”

His request for pardon was also denied by the same court a day earlier, on Thursday. The court instead ordered judicial custody for the MLA and his associate.
