Bengaluru: Today, on June 6, a Bengaluru court has ordered four people into 14-day judicial custody in connection with the stampede that took place outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, resulting in the death of 11 people and injuries to 56 others.

As reported by the Media, the four accused include officials from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team and DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the event management company associated with the organisation of the celebration event.

Earlier in the day, these four individuals were taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident that occurred when a large crowd gathered near the stadium.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court granted protection from arrest to the officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had approached the court to get the FIR against them quashed.

However, the High Court did not extend the same protection to RCB’s Head of Marketing, Nikhil Sosale, and refused to grant him any interim relief.

The stampede happened when thousands of fans gathered to celebrate RCB’s historic Indian Premier League (IPL) title win—its first in 18 years.

A grand public victory parade had been announced by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) to take place in front of the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where players were expected to interact with their fans.

The crowd swelled dangerously after it was reportedly announced that free entry would be allowed to the public.

This triggered a massive rush at the stadium gates, leading to a stampede that caused multiple casualties and left many injured.

A First Information Report (FIR) was promptly registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station after the incident.

To further investigate the tragedy, the Karnataka Government has appointed a one-man commission under retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice John Michael Cunha.

In addition to this, the Karnataka High Court also took suo motu cognisance of the incident on June 4.

The Court directed the state government to file a status report on the matter. This suo motu case is scheduled for the next hearing on June 10, Tuesday.
