Murder Inside Saket Court Lockup: Cops May Question 30+ Prisoners After Shocking Inmate Killing

Delhi Police is expected to question several inmates who were in the Saket court lockup at the time when an undertrial was killed by two others, sources reported on Friday.

According to the police, more than 30 inmates were present in the lockup during the incident.

The victim, Aman (24), was at the Saket court for a hearing on Thursday when he was allegedly attacked by two inmates, Jitender alias Jitte and Jaidev alias Baccha.

They reportedly kicked him and slammed his head against the wall due to a prior enmity. Aman, who was facing trial for attempted murder, was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

A source stated,

“We have registered an FIR in the matter and are also verifying all the facts of the incident. Our teams will investigate the case properly and may question other inmates who were present inside the lock-up,”

Sources indicated that the police have assembled a team to probe the incident, particularly focusing on why the security personnel outside the lockup were slow to respond.

A senior police officer mentioned that they are examining how many inmates were in the transport van that brought them to the Saket court and what the two accused said about Aman.

The officer added,

“The two accused will also be interrogated, and strict action will be taken against the security guards who were deployed outside the lockup,”

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the attack was rooted in a prior dispute between Aman and Jitender. Reportedly, Aman had previously attacked Jitender and his brother with a knife last year, leading to an attempted murder case against him.

The rivalry seems to have intensified during their time in custody, according to police.
