Delhi Court Postpones Judgement Dictation After Stenographer Threatens Suicide
A Delhi court deferred the dictation of its verdict after a stenographer allegedly threatened to commit suicide.
NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a Delhi Court had to delay giving its final judgment in a road accident case because the court’s regular stenographer suddenly threatened to die by suicide and walked out of the courtroom. The case involved a fatal accident caused by rash and negligent driving.

Judicial Magistrate Neha Garg, who is posted at the Karkardooma Court, mentioned the incident in her order dated April 29.

She wrote:
“Judgment could not be dictated as the regular stenographer of the court has left the court after threatening the court that he will commit suicide. Accordingly, relist for pronouncement of Judgment.”
Due to this unexpected development, the court postponed the delivery of its judgment. The final decision in the case was later pronounced on May 9.
This case relates to a road accident that took place in the year 2012. A truck driver, identified as Sukhdev, was accused of driving his vehicle recklessly and carelessly, which led to the tragic death of a man riding a motorcycle.

After examining the evidence and hearing arguments, the court found Sukhdev guilty of the offence. He was convicted under:
- Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – which deals with rash driving or riding on a public road, and
- Section 304A of the IPC – which punishes causing death by negligence.
Once the situation with the stenographer was resolved, the court proceeded to deliver its verdict. The driver was convicted for his actions that led to the loss of an innocent life.
