A Delhi University student told Delhi High Court her whole class failed a practical exam because marks weren’t uploaded. Court seeks answers from college and university after claims of “mutual blame-shifting.”
New Delhi: On August 5, the Delhi High Court has asked for responses from Delhi University and Bhagini Nivedita College after a student filed a petition claiming she and her entire class were marked ‘fail’ in a practical exam due to the negligence of their teacher and college.
The matter was heard by Justice Vikas Mahajan, who issued notice to both the university and the college, asking them to respond to the serious allegations raised in the petition. The plea was filed by a final-year Bachelor of Arts student from Bhagini Nivedita College.

According to the student, she was “arbitrarily and unjustly” given an “F” grade in the practical exam for the subject Children with Disability in Indiapart of her sixth semester results for the academic year 2024–2025.
She claimed that she had attended all required components of the course, including the theory exam, internal assessments, and the external practical examination, which consists of three parts—practical file evaluation, viva voce, and a written test.
She further added that she had performed well in both the theory and internal practical assessments.
However, she alleged that because of the “negligence and mismanagement” by the concerned teacher and the college authorities, the marks for the external practical exam were never uploaded to the Delhi University portal.
As a result, her marksheet showed her as having failed the subject.
She claimed that
“consequently, the entire class, including the petitioner, has been unjustly marked as ‘fail’ in the practical component of the said subject.”
Despite making
“repeated complaints through emails and other modes to the college and university authorities,”
no corrective action has been taken so far.
The plea was filed through Advocate Ashu Bidhuri and mentioned that instead of fixing the problem, the college and the teacher were busy blaming each other.

The petition stated that
“the teacher concerned and the college administration… have been involved in mutual blame-shifting instead of resolving the error, leaving the petitioner and other similarly-affected students without redressal.”
The student told the court that the error in her marksheet has badly affected her overall CGPA and academic record. She said this could damage her chances of qualifying for higher education courses, appearing for competitive exams like UGC-NET, and applying for PhD programs, where marks and academic performance play an important role.
The plea noted that the
“erroneous result has directly affected the student’s overall CGPA and academic record, which may adversely impact her eligibility and prospects for higher education, competitive exams such as UGC-NET, and future academic pursuits, including PhD admissions, where academic grades are a crucial factor.”

Due to this, the student has asked the Delhi High Court to order the university and the college to update the marks of the practical exam properly, reflect her actual score, and change her result to “pass” in the subject on a corrected marksheet.
The court will now wait for the response from both Delhi University and Bhagini Nivedita College before proceeding further in the matter.
