From mobile lynching to snatching – 9 new punishable offenses

India Implements Transformative Criminal Laws


Implemented in place of Indian Penal Code (IPC) Indian Justice, 2023 (BNS) Many new provisions have been added to me, which aim is to deal with modern crimes and make the judicial system in line with time. Below is a brief description of these major new provisions.



1. Section 48 – Promotion of crime from abroad

If a person stays outside India and motivates someone to commit crime here, then he will also have to face a lawsuit within India.


2. Section 69 – Sex based on false promise

Having a false promise of job, marriage or promotion is now a clearly punishable offense.


3. Section 73 – Unauthorized publication of court material

Action related to court or publishing documents without permission is now banned under law.


4. Section 95 – Children involvement in crime

To involve any child in a crime or commit crime has now been added as a separate crime.


5. Section 103 (2) – mob killing (Mob Lynching)

The intentional murder by the mob is placed in the category of special and serious crime.


6. Section 111 to 113 – Organized Crime and Terrorist Activities

  • 111 – Large -scale organized crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, cyber fraud.
  • 112 – Small level of organized crime.
  • 113 – Special Penal Provision for Terrorist Activities.


7. Section 152 – threat to the sovereignty and integrity of the nation

A new provision has been added to its place by removing the old stream of treason, which punishes the work against the unity and security of the nation.


8. Section 226 – Attempt to commit suicide (to obstruct government work)

If a person attempts suicide with the aim of stopping the work of a public officer, it will be considered a crime.


9. Section 304 – Snatching

Fastly or forcefully snatching an object is now defined as a specific offense separated from theft.
