Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has said that degrees from Jamia Urdu Aligarh are not valid for government jobs if they were earned without regular classes. The court refused to give appointment rights to people who got Urdu teaching degrees from Jamia Urdu without proper studies.
The court said this institute was giving degrees quickly and without holding regular classes.

The case was filed by Azahar Ali and some others who wanted jobs as Urdu language assistant teachers in primary schools run by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board. But the court found problems with how they got their degrees.
Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery, while rejecting their plea, said:
“The petitioner has passed intermediate exam in the year 1995 and a certificate was issued on July 26, 1995. As per case of petitioner, he got admission in Jamia Urdu, Aligarh to pursue Adib-E-Kamil in July, 1995. Its exam was conducted in November, 1995 i.e. within five months and result was declared in July, 1996. A certificate placed on record clearly shows that petitioner has passed Moallim-E-Urdu examination held in February, 1997.”
The petitioners said they passed the Adib-E-Kamil course from Jamia Urdu and were eligible to be Urdu teachers. They had cleared the Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test – 2013 and were included in the merit list. Some were given job postings, while others were still waiting.
But later, an inquiry found that many of them finished the Adib-E-Kamil course too quickly – some even in the same year as their Intermediate exam, even though the course was supposed to take one full year. Because of this, appointments that were already given were cancelled.

The petitioners said that Jamia Urdu, Aligarh was a legal and recognized institution. They told the court that claims like there were no teachers or classrooms at Jamia Urdu were false and had no proof.
They also mentioned an earlier court case Sartaj Ahmed and others vs State of UP (2018), where the court said that candidates who completed Moallim-E-Urdu before August 11, 1997, from Jamia Urdu were eligible to apply for assistant Urdu teacher jobs. They also argued that it was legal to do two courses at the same time, and cancelling their jobs without hearing their side was unfair.
But the government lawyer said the institute was not approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). He said Jamia Urdu did not conduct regular classes and gave out degrees without real studies.
“The petitioners had obtained degrees by fraud.”
The High Court agreed that the petitioners completed two major courses, Intermediate and Adib-E-Kamil, in just five months, which is not acceptable. This showed the degrees were not earned properly.
On May 17, the court said:
“Jamia Urdu was illegally distributing degrees.”
Because of this, the court decided that the petitioner was not eligible to become an Assistant Teacher (Urdu) in government schools.
