BENGALURU: In a shocking case of false accusation, a man named Suresh has filed a legal petition before the Karnataka High Court. He is asking for Rs 5 crore compensation after being wrongly framed and jailed for the murder of his wife—who later turned out to be alive.
Suresh had been accused by the police of brutally murdering his wife.

A chargesheet was filed against him under serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)—Section 498A (cruelty towards wife), Section 302 (murder), and Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
The FIR claimed that he physically and mentally tortured his wife, suspected her of having an affair, and finally murdered her on October 19, 2020, hiding both her body and the murder weapon.
However, a major twist happened on April 2, 2025, during a hearing in the sessions court. Suresh stunned the court by saying that his wife was actually alive. He requested the court to summon her and verify her status. Upon her production, the court conducted an inquiry, including taking statements from the wife, her mother, and other witnesses.
The court confirmed that the woman was indeed alive.
After this shocking revelation, the sessions court began looking into the role of the police in the case. It directed the Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, to submit a detailed report. Based on this investigation, the court acquitted Suresh and declared that the police were responsible for registering a false case against him.
The court ordered that “a compensation of Rs 1 lakh” be given to Suresh.
However, Suresh was not satisfied with this amount. He has now approached the Karnataka High Court, saying that the compensation is too small and that the trial court failed to declare him as a victim of a wrongful criminal case.
In his petition, he argued that the sessions court had wrongly closed the case on April 23, 2025, without a full trial as per the charges against him, calling it a “legally unsustainable” decision.
He highlighted that he had spent 1.5 years in jail for a crime he never committed, and that his social reputation and life were completely ruined.
Suresh now wants the High Court to grant him Rs 5 crore for the mental, social, and emotional trauma he faced due to false imprisonment. He also demanded strict action against the police officers involved in framing him.
In his plea, he also requested that the court remove the word “accused” from the judgment issued on April 23, and instead replace it with the word “victim” to reflect the truth of the matter.

“A compensation of Rs 1 lakh” – this is the amount the sessions court had awarded Suresh, which he has challenged as being too low.
“Legally unsustainable” – this is how Suresh described the sessions court’s decision to acquit him without a proper trial.
