President Of India Appoints 7 Advocates As High Court Judges After Consultation With CJI: Centre

The President of India Today (May 26) approved the appointment of 7 advocates as High Court Judges after consulting the Chief Justice of India. This move aims to boost judicial efficiency across several states.

NEW DELHI: In a major step taken under the powers given by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consulting with the Chief Justice of India, has approved the appointment of seven advocates as Judges and Additional Judges in various High Courts across the country.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote:

“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint the following Advocates as High Court Judges:”

Along with the post, he also shared an official list which includes the names of the appointed advocates and the High Courts where they will now serve.

The list includes:

• Deepak Khot, Pavan Kumar Dwivedi and Amit Seth – Appointed as Judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court
• Rohit Kapoor – Appointment as an Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court
• Subhash Upadhyay – Appointment as an Additional Judge of Uttarakhand High Court
• Smt. Shamima Jahan – Appointment as an Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court
• Sachin Shivajirao Deshmukh – Appointment as an Additional Judge of Bombay High Court

These appointments mark an important development in strengthening the judiciary across the states. The appointments aim to improve the functioning and efficiency of the High Courts by adding experienced legal professionals to the bench.

The move is also part of the continuous efforts to reduce the backlog of pending cases in courts by increasing judicial strength.
