Sonam, Raj Kushwaha Sent To 13-Day Judicial Custody In Meghalaya Murder Case

Wife Sonam and alleged lover Raj remanded after Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body found in gorge. Police did not seek further custody.
Shillong: On June 21, a court in Shillong, Meghalaya, has sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend, Raj, to 13 days of judicial custody in connection with the murder case of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.
This order came on Saturday after their police custody ended, and the police chose not to seek an extension of their custody.
Raja Raghuvanshi, who had gone to Meghalaya with his wife Sonam for their honeymoon, was reported missing on May 23 in the Sohra area.
Later, on June 2, his body was found in a highly decomposed state in a deep gorge, raising serious suspicions. Following this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) began a probe into the matter.
Both Sonam and Raj were treated as the main suspects in the case. After being taken into police custody earlier for questioning, their custody period ended on Saturday. However, the police did not request any further extension.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda, while speaking to PTI, confirmed the development and said,
“The accused were remanded to 13-day judicial custody. The police did not seek extension of the custody.”
Background Of the Case
The horrifying case began when Raja and his wife Sonam went missing during their honeymoon trip to Sohra in Meghalaya on May 23.
On June 2, Raja’s body was tragically discovered in a deep gorge. Initial investigations pointed toward a premeditated conspiracy involving Sonam and her close associates.
On June 11, in a significant development, a Shillong court ordered that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her four associates be kept in police custody for eight days.
This came after the Meghalaya Police brought Sonam from Uttar Pradesh late Tuesday night under transit remand. Her four accomplices were brought from Madhya Pradesh to Shillong the following day.

Speaking about the progress in the investigation, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the development.
he said,
“Police had sought a 10-day remand of all the accused. The court granted 8 days of police custody,”
